If you were rich, what would you spend your money on? Would you invest it for the future or blow it all on something silly? I would like to say that I would be smart with my money, but there are many very expensive things in the world that are tempting. Here are ten famous people who wasted all of their money on frivolous things.
1. Nicolas Cage Bought A One Million Dollar Comic Book
Don’t get me wrong. I am a big fan of comic books. I have a vast collection, including some rare books. However, spending one million dollars on a singular comic seems crazy. The title he purchases? The first ever Superman comic, titled Action Comics No. 1.
While it has never been disclosed how much he spent on the book when it was stolen from him, it was claimed to have a value of one million dollars. Can you imagine spending that much money on something only to have it stolen from you?
2. Tom Cruise Bought A Private Jet
Tom Cruise bought Katie Holmes a twenty million dollar private jet as a wedding gift to his bride. He wanted to find something unique and amazing, so he settled on a vehicle for his blushing bride. The relationship didn’t last, however.
3. Ke$ha Spends Thousands Of Dollars A Month on Glitter
Yes, you read that right. It probably stings to know that someone pays more money a month on glitter than you pay in rent or mortgage, but here we are. Ke$ha not only buys the glitter to wear on her body but also shoots it out of cannons during her live performances. At least she is putting on a good show!
4. Beyoncé Bought An Eighty Thousand Dollar Barbie
My mom loves to remind me of the time she hunted down a popular doll as a gift for me, and I buried it in the sandbox the next day. I can only imagine how Beyonce would feel if Blue Ivy did that with her first birthday gift.
She spent eighty thousand dollars on a custom diamond-encrusted Barbie that she gave her daughter for her first birthday. The Barbie was customized to include one hundred sixty diamond gems and white gold jewelry.
5. Miley Cyrus Paid One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars On A Car For Her Dogs
Many people struggle to be able to purchase a reliable mode of transportation for themselves, something that isn’t an issue for celebrities. In fact, Miley Cyrus purchased a Range Rover for one hundred fifty thousand dollars — but it wasn’t for herself. The car was instructed only to be used when the dogs needed to go somewhere.
6. Paris Hilton Bought A House For Her Dog
Speaking of spending too much on pets, Paris Hilton bought an entire house for her dogs. In 2009, she purchased a three hundred twenty-five thousand dollar dog house fitted with air conditioning, heating, designer furniture, and a black crystal chandelier. It was two stories and was designed to resemble Hilton’s own home. At least she had several dogs that were living there. Not that it makes me feel any better.
7. Kim Basinger Spent Twenty Million Dollars On A Town
I can’t say that owning an entire town has ever been something I dreamed of, but apparently, Kim Basinger has. The town was bought to turn it into a tourist destination. Braselton, Georgia, is where Basinger is from, but it wasn’t a wise decision for her. She filed for personal bankruptcy within five years of the purchase.
8. Jay-Z Bought A Fifty-Five Million Dollar Racehorse
California Chrome is considered one of the greatest racehorses of all time, as it has won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Winner. The racing community, and former owner Steve Coburn, were blown away when Jay-Z stepped in to purchase it as soon as it went up for sale. The winning bid? Fifty-five million dollars.
9. Nicolas Cage Bought A Dinosaur Skull
It should be no surprise that Nicolas Cage is on this list more than once. He tends to be a bit eccentric with his money. This purchase has a nice story, however. Cage bought a Tyrannosaurus Battaar skull for two hundred seventy-six thousand dollars in 2007.
Later, it was reported that the Tyrannosaurus Battaar skull was stolen from Mongolia and brought to the United States illegally. Cage then returned the skull to authorities, receiving zero compensation back. What a good guy.
10. Ashton Kutcher Spent Two Hundred Thousand Dollars On A Ticket To Space
In 2012, Ashton Kutcher signed up to be one of several people to fly to space. The ticket cost him two hundred thousand dollars, but here’s the kicker. By the time it was his turn to go, he had a wife and kids, who urged him to stay home. So he never went on his trip to space and was out the cost of the ticket.
