Celebrities make a lot of money; there is no denying that. Many live lavish lifestyles, but that doesn’t mean they don’t give back. There are a fair amount of well-known people that do. Here are ten celebrities that donate large sums of money to charities and causes.

1. Oprah Winfrey

Anyone who is a fan of hers knows that Oprah uses her fame and fortune to support various organizations and charities. The Oprah Winfrey Foundation, to which she founded and has donated more than forty million dollars, strives to help women and children find education and healthcare worldwide. By 2012, she had given away about four hundred million to educational causes.

2. Taylor Swift

Singer and songwriter Taylor Swift is known to have donated to various charitable causes and given support to fans throughout her career. This includes one million dollars to Louisiana flood victims in 2016, one hundred thousand dollars to Cancer Research, sixty thousand dollars to the music departments of six U.S. colleges, and much more. During the COVID pandemic, Swift donated to the World Health Organization and Feeding Africa.

3. Elton John

The famous singer and composer has been known for his philanthropic efforts since 1986. After losing two friends to AIDS in a year, he founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation. His annual White Tie & Tiara Ball auctions off pianos he has played and other memorabilia have contributed to its funding, as have John’s own donations and funding.

George Lucas has given the Lucas Film Foundation and The George Lucas Educational Foundation over four million dollars. These serve on a mission to inspire and empower young people to become responsible citizens and compassionate leaders and live their dreams.

George Clooney is married to Amal Clooney, whose career as a renowned human rights lawyer focuses on advocacy for refugees and marginalized groups. The two co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice to fight for marginalized and vulnerable communities. In 2017, just days after white nationalists incited violence in Charlottesville, the couple donated one million to the Southern Poverty Law Center to fight hate crimes.

6. Sam Simon

Fans of The Simpsons know Sam Simon as the co-creator of the animated series. He has donated nearly two million dollars to The Sam Simon Foundation. This foundation was created to save the lives of dogs and enrich people’s lives. The Foundation manages several programs, including a mobile veterinary unit, dogs for veterans, and dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

7. Miley Cyrus
