Bed Bath & Beyond is that store where you always spend more than you planned on scented candles, cool cookware, beauty supplies and bedding. It’s all just so tempting! Before you know it, you’ve got a full shopping cart.
Unfortunately, the home goods retailer has hit rough times. It recently announced that it’s closing 150 stores by the end of the year.
We’ve got a list of more than 50 closing locations that just got confirmed. But more than that, we’ve got a few tips about what this means for you.
1. Going Out of Business Sales
If your local store is on the list, it’s almost certainly going to have a major “going out of business” sale. We can’t tell you exactly when, because different stores will be closing at different times from now until the end of the year.
How do we know there’ll be sales? When the retail chain closed locations previously, it held “Entire Store On Sale” events in which all items, with few exceptions, were discounted.
Already, two stores in New York have confirmed that they’re currently having a “going out of business” sale or a “clearance sale.”
2. Can You Use Coupons?
Bed Bath & Beyond is known for its popular 20% off coupons. You’ve probably received these coupons in the mail, whether you’ve asked for them or not.
You can also find coupons in the retail chain’s app or in its email newsletter or you can even have SMS coupons delivered to you via text.
You can still use coupons in the doomed locations for now, but probably not once the clearance sales start. In past Bed Bath & Beyond liquidation sales, all purchases were final and coupons were not accepted.
3. What About the Rewards Program?
The retail chain has a customer loyalty program called Welcome Rewards that works in all three brands of its stores:
- Bed Bath & Beyond, which has roughly 1,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada.
- Buy Buy Baby, a chain of about 130 stores in the U.S. and Canada that sells strollers, infant clothing and other baby goods.
- Harmon Face Values, a cosmetics and beauty care discount retailer that has about 50 locations in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.
Members of the customer loyalty program earn points on their purchases that can be used for savings or special perks.
However, it’s not immediately clear whether members will be able to earn points on their purchases at liquidating stores.
